Introducing Imari to South Korea and Ms. Evelyn's 5th Grade Class

So I thought to myself, “I’ll just learn Korean, and then I won’t need subtitles.” I watched anything and everything I could get my hands on. My mom took me to groups in our city that met up to practice speaking Korean and to Korean restaurants where she forced me to awkwardly chat with the owners in Korean. Every interaction I had left me with a tremendous sense of connection to Korea and its people. The people I met reminded me of my family members, my grandparents, aunts and uncles, and these people treated me as though I was their family, too! They saw me trying and struggling and learning and they took me under their wing to show me and teach me about their history, stories, and culture. It is my hope to pay that kindness forward and share it with all of you!

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

I can't wait to take you on this journey with me. I'm so excited to show you my favorite spots, try new things, and get to show you what it is that I love about South Korea.
