Recently, she made Cilbir, which is a Turkish dish with poached eggs on top of a flavorful yogurt base with a spicy, fragrant oil on top. Homemade food is a good way to make us feel a little less far from home, which is very special to me.
There is no shortage of amazing food to explore in India— I just hope that I can experience as much of it as possible this year!
Last week, I was in the mountains in the far northeastern region of India, and I ate a lot of Tibetan food, which includes one of my favorite dishes I’ve had in India so far— momos! Momos are dumplings filled with vegetables or meat and served with spicy sauces. Another favorite is thukpa, a hearty noodle soup with vegetables and sometimes meat. I also tried Tibetan butter tea, which is creamy and slightly salty, made with tea leaves, yak butter and salt—it’s very different from regular tea!
Tibetan cuisine is one of my favorite new things I've eaten this year! I loved every dish that I tried. The food is so warm and flavorful. It makes you feel so cozy, especially when you're in the mountains surrounded by chilly air. Momos in particular are a wildly popular dish in India, despite the fact that it is not a traditional Indian dish. These dumplings are one of my favorite comfort foods after a long day of research or language school.
