Because Croatia’s culture is slower-paced than American culture (particularly compared to the hustle and bustle of New York City!), going out for coffee can be a great way to interact with friends and colleagues. While coffee drinking is something that many Americans do rather quickly (sometimes even in their cars), in Croatia, it’s usually a multi-hour affair, where one tiny cup of coffee (where the cup is always china, never plastic or paper) and a glass of water is nursed for hours while you sit and chat with your friends. Going for a stroll along one of the Zagreb’s parks, lakes or nature areas, or finding one of the many statues or busts of famous musicians, poets and statesmen are other ways of getting to know the local culture and community.
