I got to know a family in Paris and decided to interview their three kids—a boy and two girls. Alexis (a common boy's name in France) is five, Adele is six and Eva is eight. I asked them questions and they responded to me, in French. I recorded the conversation and translated it to English for you guys. This is what they had to say about growing up and living in Paris.
Adele: “Toast! And cereal.”
Eva: “Yes, toast.”
Adele: “With butter and sugar, and jam.”
Eva: “And honey. And to drink we have milk, or water, or orange juice.”
Eva: “And every once in a while, we eat croissants.”
Alexis: “No, we never eat croissants!”
Mattias: “What about for lunch?”
Eva: “Oh, that depends …”
Mattias: “But what about generally?”
Eva: “Generally, we eat at the school cafeteria, and at the cafeteria, the food changes all of the time.”
Adele: “We eat vegetables!”
Alexis: “I like cake! Chocolate cake.”
Eva and Adele: “Oh, and we like to eat doughnuts.”
Mattias: “Doughnuts?”
Adele: “Well, beignets!” (Beignets are a sugary French pastry that taste sort of like a doughnut.)
Mattias: “And what about dinner? I know that must change all of the time too, but …”
Eva: “Yes, we eat all kinds of things.”
Adele: “Fish! Meat …”
