The main languages spoken in Dili are Tetun and Portuguese, and some English because of the large number of foreigners. Although people tend to speak their own local dialects in their districts, when they come to Dili they must use one of the national languages to understand each other.
The money used in Dili is the same as the money used in the districts, dollars and centavos; however, unlike everywhere else in Timor, you can use a debit card to pay at restaurants and shops in the city.
A small bottle of water is $0.25 and a large one is $0.50 here, just like in my local community.
My favorite place to eat in Dili is an Indian restaurant called Hari's. The food takes so long to arrive because it is all prepared fresh to order, but it is worth the wait.
Around Dili, you mostly hear foreign music except in the microlets. Justin Bieber and Adele are very popular along with other artists who sing in English and Portuguese.
