Hello! My name is Isaiah Dawson, and I am a college student from Orlando, Florida. As a kid, I loved acting in school plays and playing sports like football and soccer. I really loved living in my home state of Florida. I used to swim at the beaches and ride on theme park rides all the time. Then I left Florida and moved to Washington, D.C., to study political science at Howard University. In D.C., I liked to go to art shows, study Black history and protest for social change. In my college classes, I learned a lot about the history and politics of Africa. This made me want to go to Africa one day! I am currently studying abroad for a semester in Gaborone, Botswana. I am blessed to receive acceptance to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program to help pay for my semester abroad. As an exchange student here in Botswana, I made new friends who come from all over the world, including countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe, Germany, and the Netherlands. I look forward to sharing more about my semester abroad, and I cannot wait to hear about your adventures at school, too!
