The Beauties of Botswana: Deserts and Diamonds

Introduction:

The city of Gaborone, Botswana is located on the Notwane River in between the Kgale and Oodi Hills. Gaborone is only nine miles from the border of the country, South Africa. The word "Gaborone" means "it does not fit badly" or "it is not unbecoming" in Botswana's native language, Setswana. The city was built with plenty of space for gardens, open spaces and crosswalks for pedestrians.

Gaborone's diverse and vibrant wildlife is what makes it special and different. There are around 150 distinct species of mammals in Botswana. Over 200 species of reptiles and amphibians exist in Botswana. There are also about 460 distinct species of birds. Many of Gaborone's parks include animals like lions, elephants, foxes, ostriches and zebras.

Gaborone's rich supply of minerals including iron and diamonds in its soil gives the city the resources it needs to thrive. Gaborone's unique wildlife attracts plenty of tourists who then help to boost the economy.
