My name is Jacqui Scibior. I am 29 years old and currently live on the southern coast of Peru. Let me take you back to when I was a child and explain how I ended up in Peru.

I grew up in a small town in Upstate New York with my three sisters and four dogs. We had a beautiful forest behind our house and I loved to climb trees, play in the river, and have snowball fights with my sisters. I enjoyed ice skating on frozen lakes in the winter, and jumping off rocks to swim in lakes in the summer. I would search in the ponds for baby frogs, have rock skipping contests with my friends, and collect lightning bugs with my hands at night.

My parents took me and my sisters on a few vacations when we were younger, and these were the moments I started to question the world. I wondered, why do other children speak different languages? What do they do for fun? Do they study the same things I do in school? Why does their house look so different? What do they like to eat? I was so curious! I taped a giant world map on my bedroom wall and became obsessed with watching videos about other countries. One thing I noticed was that buildings looked so different in every country. Some were made of mud bricks, others had roofs made of banana leaves, others were painted bright, beautiful colors.
