How does the environment you live in impact your everday life? How would you describe the environment in Lewiston? I know there are a lot of lakes and forests that people use for outdoor activities. Many people also use these areas for hunting and fishing. How else do you interact with the land around you?
The environment in Tromsø, and Northern Norway in general, has a big impact on people's day-to-day lives. While most cities are surrounded by suburbs, industry and highways, Tromsø is surrounded by pristine nature. These gorgeous landscapes sometimes make life difficult, but more often than not they provide a source of beauty, recreation and even livlihood.
Tromsø is a city sorrounded by nature. Ski trails through the forest take people from their homes to the university. Bridges span the fjords and connect different parts of town. Seabirds who have lost their homes have made new nests on the restaurants and hotels. This unique combination of urban and natural features are very important to life in Tromsø. The biggest environments you'll find here are the fjords (long stretches of sea surrounded by cliffs that were created by glaciers), mountains, tundra (long, empty stretches of frozen ground with no trees) and forests. Do you have any of those environments back in Lewiston?
