Gardening in Togo!

Our school garden plot before we started any work
Our first task was to clear the garden plot of rocks and debris
Students collected branches for a fence
We measured and marked our garden beds
A good day's work is always a reason to celebrate!
Okra thriving despite some weeds...last year the school water pump broke, so only local vegetables survived the dry period
For the second year of the garden, we made compost to improve the soil
In this compost pile, there are layers of dry grasses and leaves, green grasses and leaves, manure and ash...as these materials decompose together they become compost!
