They reminded me of egrets, but I’m not sure if they are related to the egrets I have seen in the U.S. When I saw the birds and sheep moving through the field together, I thought of other animals that co-exist in a mutually beneficial way. For example, there are small birds that pick off bugs and debris from hippos, in order to find food, and the hippos stay clean this way. But I’m not sure why this pair of animals are spending time together!
This week I could feel the seasons change! Togo has two seasons, the rainy season and dry season. During dry season, there is a period called Harmattan when big wind streams blow in dust from the Sahara. This turns the sky a grayish yellow and makes the nights cooler. After a couple of rain storms this week, I think we will soon be officially in rainy season! Grasses are beginning to sprout again. The air is more humid.
