Ainoa is one of my seven roommates and the only one from Spain. She and I speak mostly in Spanish together, and I've always appreciated how patient she is with me when I don't quite know the right words to say. She's incredibly kind, fun to be around and a hard worker. She's been a great source of help for me, whether I'm looking for recommendations of new restaurants to try, deciding on what master's programs to apply to or when I need a Spaniard to interview! I interviewed her in Spanish and translated most of it for this article. Ainoa provided the photos, and captioned all of them in Spanish!
Ainoa's full name is Ainoa Prieto García.
Ainoa's pueblo (town, usually someone's small hometown) is called Ibi. It's about a 40-minute drive north of the city of Alicante. Alicante lies on the eastern coast of Spain, between the cities of Murcia and Valencia.
Ainoa lives with me in Madrid in an apartment we share with six others. In Madrid, like in most large cities, it's common to live in a piso (apartment). With her family in the small town of Ibi, however, she lives in a house with dos plantas (two floors). The lower level includes a garage and a game room.
