I eat the same thing for most of the week, which is some combination of brown or black beans and cooked meat. This is called feijoada. I eat this dish, as well as white rice, chicken and pasta. This week my host mom made fried plaintains, which is my favorite food and translates to banana da terra.
On Saturday, I went to an outdoor concert that featured local musicians. Afterwards, I went to a club that played "Toda Menina Baiana" by Gilberto Gil. It is a song from the 1970s that I really love. It has a very warm, vibrant sound to it.
The most fun activity this week was eating cake at a bakery called Doces Sonhos which means Sweet Dreams. The cake was similar to a cheesecake that you'd find in the United States, but it was made with condensed milk instead of cheese.
I had required reading for my class called Faces da Desgualdade which means Faces of Inequality and the lesson was about gender issues.
I teach a group of students English and at the end of our class, we played a game called vivo morto. In the game, one person leads the group by saying "vivo" which means live and "morto" which means die. To live is to stand up and to die is to crouch down.
