People speak Portuguese in Rio, but cariocas (people who are from Rio) have a certain way of speaking that is unique to them.
Everywhere in Brazil uses reais.
A bottle of water costs R$2. Do you remember the exchange rate from my older Logbook?
Because Rio is a famous city that many tourists visit, you'll find things from a lot of countries. For example, there is a Starbucks in Rio. In Salvador, there are no Starbucks coffee shops. I ate at a New York pizza shop every night in Rio. My favorite restaurant was Gringo Cafe. "Gringo" is a word that people use to refer to foreigners. I ate pancakes that were delicious. I didn't realize how much I missed pancakes! What food would you miss if you traveled abroad?
Recently I have been listening to the Gilberto Gil album "Refavela". It was released in 1977.
