Colombia has a fusion of European, African, and Indigenous influence all throughout its culture, including the food! Cali, the capitol city of Valle Del Cauca, has the largest Afro Colombian population in the country. Cali is near the pacific coast, and because of this the Afro-Colombians have a culture that they call "Pacífico". Traditional pacific food includes a lot of seafood, Arroz De Coco (Coconut Rice), salad, and patacón (fried and mashed green plantain). You can also enjoy popular Colombian dishes here like Empanadas, Papa Rellenas, and Arepas.
I also really like trying the exotic fruits native to Colombia. In Cali, I have tried fruits that I wouldn't normally eat in the United States such as Yellow Dragonfruit, Passionfruit, and Lulo. These are really refreshing, and a great reminder of how many fruits exist in the world!
Most restaurants have what's called a Menu Del Día (menu of the day). This usually consists of a soup, rice, beans, a protein, salad, a fried plantain and a drink. So far, my favorite drinks are Limonada and Agua de Panela. These are very filling meals and are great for the price!
