The main language spoken in London is English. English in London can be different than the English in the United States. To begin with, English people speak with an accent. This accent can be difficult to understand at times. On multiple occasions, I had to ask people to clarify what they were saying due to my confusion. It was interesting to see how the same language can be spoken in different ways.
The British Pound is the currency in London. The pound currently has a 1.4 conversion rate to the U.S. dollar. This means that one pound (or GBP) costs $1.4 in USD. This rate made everything in London quite expensive for me. Since the value of the dollar is low right now, everything in Europe is more expensive than I expected.
A bottle of water in London costs around 2.5 pounds. This equates to $3.50. I would suggest asking for tap water instead of getting bottled water.
London is known for their Indian food. With that in mind, I was able to have an amazing Indian dinner at a restaurant named Punjab. We shared multiple dishes at the table from lamb to eggplant. I was very impressed with the meal and even ordered an extra entree of chicken. I would highly recommend trying Indian food in London!
