Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week I traveled from the lowlands of Rabat to the ridges around Marrakech. To get there, I had to go through the metropolis of Casablanca, Morocco's biggest city. Being in Casablanca always reminds me of New York because of its tall buildings and bustling city life. The trip to Marrakech takes roughly fours hours by train and spans over 200 miles, about the same distance as a trip from New Haven, CT to Wilmington, DE.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

Throughout my journey I have traveled all throughout Morocco. From Tangier in the north, Fes in the east, and Marakech in the south, I have seen beaches, mountains, forests, and deserts. The one thing that everywhere seems to have in common is incredible natural beauty.

How did I get around this week?:

Usually when I am in Rabat, I get around rather easily using my bike or walking. Rabat also has a tram system that I sometimes use to travel to other neighborhoods. It's very convenient and only costs around 60 cents a ride.

To get to Marrakech, I needed to take a train from Rabat. Once in Marrakech, I mostly got around using local taxis. Within cities there are special taxis called taxi saghir (a small taxi) that can take you from place to place. They are usually color coded by city: Rabat's taxis are dark blue, Marrakech's taxis are yellow, and Casablanca's taxis are red.
