Delicious and Diverse Hawker Centers

For instance, some dishes had plain white rice as a side, while others mixed in the rice with the rest of the dish, like in stir-fry.

The kinds of dishes that reminded me of home were the Indian-style meals. Similar to Mexican food, the Indian food I ate in Singapore included flavored rice, meat, and a kind of flatbread called Prata, which reminded me of tortillas from Mexico.

I also had a chance to try different kinds of fruits that are difficult to find in the United States. Have you heard of durian? If you ever have a chance to try this fruit, be cautious! The stench might be overwhelming at first, but the taste of the durian fruit is a unique delicacy.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Whenever I try a new food, I feel excitement as well as a small amount of nervousness before my first bite. The tricky part about trying anything new is that you are not sure whether you will like it or not. Especially when it comes to food! The only way to determine if you will like a new meal is to be courageous and try it out! Despite my nerves, I am always glad to try new foods because most of the time they turn out to be delicious. By trying new foods, you always have the chance of finding a new favorite meal!

How is the food prepared?:

The way food is prepared depends on each food stall, since each serves a different kind of food. For instance, some stalls serve hot bowls of noodles, and if you are lucky enough, you can see the cook stretching the dough to make the noodles! If a stall is serving meat, such as duck, the owner might hang a few cooked ducks by the window to attract customers.
