Just Another Day (and Night) in a Korean High School

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

Yena: School starts at 8:20 am and ends at 4:00 pm. I usually go to a hagwon (private after-school academy) for more classes, sometimes until 9:00 or 10:00 pm.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Yesung: Yena and I go to different high schools, but we both walk alone to school.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Yena: We eat lunch in the school cafeteria, and the menu changes every day. My favorite lunch is bibimbap. Yesung: I like it when we have garlic steak for lunch.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Yena: I take Korean, English and Chinese classes. "Hello" is 안녕하세요 (annyeonghaseo) in Korean. Yesung: All students take Korean and English classes. You can choose between Chinese and Japanese, and I chose the Japanese language class.

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Yena: Yejin is a very common girls’ name at my school. Yesung: There are a lot of boys named Woojin.

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

Yena: Typically, we are required to take Korean literature, biology/chemistry, math, English, P.E., art and Korean geography. I like gym class a lot.
