Snapshots of Beijing

My parents visited me last week and we spent time in both Hong Kong and Beijing. "Beijing" in Chinese means "Northern Capital" and the city is filled with palaces, museums and other monuments!

Tiananmen is surrounded by giant structures dedicated to the Communist Party of China
It is also the entrance into the Forbidden City, the palace of China's emperors for 500 years!
The Forbidden City is a collection of palaces and temples
China's emperors also lived at the Summer Palace outside the city
China's emperors also acted as religious leaders; This is the Temple of Heaven where they prayed every year for good harvests
The Lama Temple is another major landmark in the city and is a temple complex built by some of the later Chinese emperors
The Great Wall, about two hours outside of the city, is also a major landmark
