Lei ho (Hello)! My name is Kachun and I am a junior in college currently living and studying abroad in Hong Kong, a city in southern China. Right now, even though I am halfway around the world, just like all of you, I went to school and grew up in the United States. I am originally from Queens, New York, which is part of the five boroughs that make up New York City.
My journey to Hong Kong and Asia started when I was little. Queens and New York City, in general, have always been a diverse and welcoming place. Growing up, I remember heading with my parents to the markets of Chinatown, getting frozen Bengali popsicles in Jackson Heights, and treating myself to a bowl of matzah ball soup in Forest Hills. Coming from such a diverse place, it has always inspired me to travel and see the world. I also grew up in a Chinese-American household and I study the history of Asian-American art in college, and so going back to Hong Kong and Asia has always been a goal. I hope to use this journey to learn more about my own background and to learn more about the type of art people do here.
I am excited to share my journey with you and I hope that my story can inspire you as well.
