Nature News

It’s not the kind of weather that makes you want to spend all day outside, but it’s great for cozy cafes and exploring Dublin’s indoor spots, perfect for a study abroad experience!

What animals did I see this week? :

Walking around Dublin has been like stepping into an urban wildlife wonderland! One of the coolest things I’ve noticed is the wild foxes that roam the city. They’re surprisingly common, and it's always fun to spot one darting through the streets or peeking out from behind a building. They’re not shy, and sometimes they’ll even stop and stare back at you for a moment before wandering off. It’s definitely something you wouldn’t expect to see in the middle of a busy city, but it adds a little bit of nature’s charm to the urban landscape.

At University College Dublin, where I’m studying, there are three large lakes on campus, and each one has its own little community of ducks. The ducks are pretty laid-back, often waddling around or gliding across the water. For me, the real stars are the two swans that call the campus ponds home. One lives at the large pond near the library, and the other resides at the pond by my dorm. My friends and I have even given them names: 'Sheryl' lives by the library, and 'Matthew' lives near my dorm. They’re goregous animals, gliding peacefully across the water, and it’s always a highlight of my day to see them.

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

This week, I hiked the Howth Peninsula, located near Dublin, and it was amazing!
