So this week, I traveled a lot. I was back in the United States for a few days and was in both Chicago, IL and Portland, OR. I was actually presenting some research that I conducted at a conference! I also went from Maastricht three hours north to Amsterdam. During the entire journey, I saw a lot of greenery and flat land. The Netherlands is a very flat country, so you don't see any mountains like you would in the United States. Outside of the cities, there is a lot of farmland, but the train goes through major cities as well.
On this journey thus far, I have traveled thousands of miles. From Peoria to Chicago, and then to Amsterdam was over 4,000 miles. Then, I took a three-hour train down south to Maastricht. I've also been to Belgium, Denmark, Spain, India and back to the United States a few times, so it has been quite a journey.
Since I've been traveling between countries, I've been spending a lot of time at airports and taking planes everywhere. But usually, when I'm home in Maastricht, I either ride my bike or take the bus. The European public transportation system is great, which means I can always take a bus or a train to get somewhere. But in the Netherlands, everyone bikes. I will say that again for emphasis: everyone bikes.
