My name is Karan Takhar. I am currently working for one year in India, and I can’t wait to share this phenomenal experience with all of you.
While growing up in the Washington, D.C. area, I loved playing sports and video games. This is mostly how I made my friends, and for many years I played travel soccer. Ultimately, recess and P.E. were my favorite part of the school day! However, I also enjoyed math class. I was in third grade, in Ms. Gekas’ class, when I found out that I enjoyed and was good at math. They say you become good at what you enjoy, and this was very true in my case. We had a Pokemon times table challenge where Ms. Gekas would give us one minute to complete ten multiplication and division problems. Attacking these problems excited me, and I flourished, ultimately capturing the elusive Charzard in the process.
In terms of family, I have one brother named Inder who is two years older than I am. While growing up, my brother and I were very close because we enjoyed playing outside and playing video games together. Of course, I would always dominate! He currently lives in Philadelphia, while my parents still live in Potomac, Maryland, close to D.C. Both my parents grew up in India and moved to the U.S. in their mid-twenties.
