I worked for two years as a nanny taking care of Beatrice, who's now nine, and Anna, who's seven. I only recently stopped working with them every day, but last week I interviewed them for this field note because they're the kids I'm closest to in Montreal. I've put clarifications in [square brackets], as they are children and sometimes aren't totally clear, and note that Beatrice's nickname is Kiki.
Anna and Kiki's parents speak English as their first language, but the girls go to French school and are totally bilingual. You'll notice that occasionally French words slip into the interview, because these are words they mostly hear at school and the English words don't come as readily to mind.
Breakfast: pancakes, bagels, crepes, eggs, waffles, toast, fruit
Lunch: grilled cheese, pizza, quesadillas, soup
Dinner: macaroni and cheese, tacos, spaghetti and meatballs, pizza, hamburgers, quiche
Kiki: Our house is comfortable, warm, and beautiful.
Anna: Very warm, VERY, very nice and elegant, and there's lots of paintings, and it's filled with people!
