A Day In The Life

[She walks over to the chore chart.] We have to read, do our homework, clean out our lunch boxes, clean our bedroom, put away the dishes, brush our teeth and we're not allowed to have tantrums.
Kiki: I would add not being rude and making our beds.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Kiki: My dad's job is helping people make books. And he has a company that helps make books. [He is a software engineer who has a software that facilitates the publishing of textbooks.]
Anna: My mom's job is a doctor at the McGill hospital. She's a...how do we say it [in English]?
Me: Emergency room.
Anna: An emergency room doctor.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

Kiki: So school starts at eight...eight...I'd say about 8:20 because you get in class, you get undressed [out of your boots, snowpants, coat, etc.] and all of that stuff, and that takes about ten minutes. We usually leave around 4:45. [School ends at 3:30, but the service de garde is a daycare service at the school where the kids can stay until 6:00 if their parents can't pick them up right away.]

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Anna: We walk, and we are allowed to go by ourself. Well, we're not allowed to go separately, we have to be together. But if we're together, we can go without our parents.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Kiki: I eat at Accueil [reception], and my favorite food is pizza.
Anna: I eat in an area between all the classrooms on the second floor, and I like pizza, too!
