In honor of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, my roommate and hostel mates prepared a feast! We spooned tasty sauces composed of eggplant, chickpeas and lentils over beads of rice, dressing it up properly to participate in the celebration. For dessert, my roommate made suji-cake, a spongy, sweet rice-flour cake sprinkled with raisin, almond and cashew slices. What a delight!
Khalid’s new songs "Saved" and "Location" have been the theme songs of my week!
I got access to the microbiology lab! I am excited to start the second phase of my research, which is studying the population of fungi found living in and around sea turtle nest sites. While I was working at the sea turtle sanctuary, I noticed that many clutches (nests) were impacted by fungal infection, killing the hatchlings (baby turtles) before they hatched. I hope that by studying this phenomenon we will better understand this occurrence and be able to improve conservation efforts so that future hatchlings will have an opportunity to break out of their shells.
Along with a flock of scientific articles, I am reading Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar.
Biking! Ever since my friend first gave me her old bike, Oscar (the bike) and I have been inseparable! He’s always ready to roll and is a great help when I'm running late.
