We all eat meals together and play cards in the evening when everyone is done with classes.
This week was a mix of catching up and studying! I loved reading the life updates that my friends from home and college sent me. Since I have access to WhatsApp, they often send me long paragraphs to keep me in the loop with everything that’s been happening. Aside from that, I have been reading over my International Business Marketing textbook and notes and in preparation for my exam!
On the very top deck of the ship, there is a netted basketball and volleyball court where everyone gathers to play. A few days ago, my friends and I played volleyball there for the first time. Even though the court is pretty small, it was so fun to play together. It felt surreal to be playing volleyball while just sailing across the ocean. We had a great time and will definitely play again before we reach Brazil. There are also two ping-pong tables on the boat, so after dinner my friend has been teaching me, and it's been tons of fun learning how to play this game!
We officially crossed the equator this week on October 3rd! To mark the occasion, the ship erupted into Neptune Day festivities. There is a wild, time-honored tradition that everyone goes through: first you get drenched in green water (which is supposed to represent fish guts), swim across the pool, kiss a real fish, and shave your head. I couldn’t bring myself to shave my hair, but so many of the guys I'm friends with did. It’s been crazy seeing a ship full of bald heads roaming the decks– some people’s heads are so shiny they gleam.
