The currency used in Brazil is the real. You pronounce it like this: RAY-al. Its value constantly changes! Right now, it's around four reals to one dollar.
A bottle of water costs about two reals. It's always a necessity when going out on a hot day here in Belém.
The best meal that I enjoyed this week was the various beef and pork at the churrasco, or barbecue, this past weekend. Brazilian cuisine is definitely heavily meat-based, and can be fairly difficult for vegetarians who come here.
This week I listened to a famous Brazilian artist Tim Maia. You can check out my favorite song "O caminho do bem", or "The good path." Ask your teacher if you can visit this YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwUGJXm02ZQ.
