The main language that is spoken throughout Italy is Italian. During the bi-weekly meetings I have with my resident director and my internship advisor, I really enjoy listening to them speak Italian to each other. It's an instant reminder that this is a global experience.
I am still based in Birmingham, Alabama, so I use the U.S. dollar everyday. I know my friends in Italy use the euro, which is the currency used throughout most of Europe.
Water costs about the same in Italy as it does in the U.S., depending on where you buy it.
The best meal I had this week was ramen noodles. This may sound bad, but ramen noodles are my best friend. Pasta and noodles are very common throughout Italy, so eating noodles of any kind gives me a small sense of connecting to Italian culture. Ramen is Japanese, though, so next time I'll go for spaghetti!
