Catalan and Spanish are the two major languages spoken here in Barcelona. The signs around where I'm staying for the week are predominantly in Catalan, which makes me feel like it would be worth it to learn a couple of Catalan phrases.
The currency used here is predominantly euros. Right now the exchange rate is one euro for 1.06 U.S. dollars, depending on where you decide to convert/withdraw money.
Here in Barcelona, a bottle of water costs approximately one euro.
The best meal I've had this week is tapas. When you order tapas here in Spain, you get a bunch of little plates to share with a group. I've enjoyed tapas because you get to try a little bit of everything. My favorite tapa I tried was a Spanish tortilla. Normally I think of a tortilla as something made out of corn or flour, but a Spanish tortilla is made out of eggs and potatoes. The eggs are beaten and poured over the sliced potatoes to create a tortilla that you can slice up like a cake. I also had lots of paella this week, which is a rice dish served in a pan with either meat, seafood or vegetables.
