My Interview with High School Students

My mom takes care of elderly people.

Sonyu: My parents work in the chacra (field) and sell the products from there.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 8am and ends at 2:30pm.

Gressy: I leave my house at 6:30am and usually get home around 3 or 3:20pm.

Sonyu: I leave my house around 7:45 and get home at 2:40pm.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Both Gressy and Sonyu walk alone to and from school.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Gressy: I usually buy lunch in the street. My favorite food is ahi de gallina (a spicy chicken plate).

Sonyu: I eat lunch at home. My favorite food is ceviche (a raw fish meal).

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

The language spoken here at school is Spanish. Both students said they greet their friends by saying buenos dias (good morning) and acknowledging them by their names. It is more polite to say "hello" by saying good morning, good afternoon, or good evening.

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Gressy: Some common names here are Jose, Maria, and John.

Sonyu: The school is so small that everyone has a different name. But some popular names here are Juan or Valeria.
