I was skeptical because so many “Mexican” spots here aren’t authetic and usually use very bland ingredients. However, when the tacos arrived, made with soft corn tortillas, juicy meat, salsa, onions, cilantro, and lime, I knew I’d found something special. After one bite, I felt like I was back in L.A.
Of course, I can’t forget gelato which is Italian ice cream that’s smoother and creamier than regular ice cream. My favorite combination is strawberry and straitachella (chocolate chip).
The gnocchi made me forget how tired I was of pasta, at least for a little while. The soft little dumplings, the melted cheese, and the warm tomato sauce were amazing.
But the tacos? Those hit me on a whole other level. I’ve been in Italy for almost two months now, and I really miss home, especially the food. I’ve tried many restaurants that locals swore had “the best Latino food,” but honestly, most of them were disappointing. They didn't use real corn tortillas, the sauces had no spice at all, and they put cheddar cheese on everything, instead of the real Mexican cheeses. I understand that the ingredients can be hard to find here, but it still feels strange when people call that “authentic.” After weeks of missing the bold flavors and real spice I grew up with, finally tasting something that reminded me of L.A. was the best feeling! It was more than just food, but a little piece of comfort I didn’t realize I needed.
After, I treated myself to gelato!
