What main languages are spoken here?:

I am lucky that I get to practice speaking Spanish regularly in Chicago, as this will prepare me for when I'm speaking Spanish only in Oaxaca. Here, there are three neighborhoods with large populations of immigrants from Puerto Rico and Mexico. I live in a community where many people speak Spanish with a Puerto Rican accent. I love practicing Spanish with my neighbors who teach me popular words in Spanish that you only hear in Puerto Rico. Can you guess what the word chavos might mean?

What type of money is used here?:

While I am in Mexico, I will use the Mexican peso. Right now the American dollar to Mexican peso exchange rate is approximately 19 pesos to $1. For example, when you exchange $10 , you will receive 190 pesos. That feels like a lot of chavos!

What was the best meal this week?:

Before I left to go to Oaxaca, I stopped by my favorite coffee shop for a coffee and a concha. As I mentioned, if you go to certain neighborhoods in Chicago, you will find a lot of foods and shops similar to what you might encounter in Mexico. I love conchas with coffee, and I'm excited to experience some of these same things in the country they originally came from. Something you CANNOT find in Oaxaca but was your first location clue for the beginning of my journey is the famous Chicago dog. What do you like on your hot dogs?
