The official languages of Morocco are Arabic and Tamazight. Tamazight is the official language of the Amazigh people. French is widely spoken throughout Morocco, as well as Moroccan Arabic or "Darija". It is also not uncommon to hear Moroccans speaking English or Spanish.
The Dirham is the Moroccan currency. Dirhams come in coins and paper bills. There are purple, blue, green, and orange paper bills. They are beautiful!
A bottle of water costs a little less than $0.50. That's cheaper than it is in the U.S.!
The best meal this week was harira. I always describe harira as "bean soup". Harira is tomato soup with lentils in it. My host mom knows it is my favorite meal, so she makes it often. Harira is served with bread, like most Moroccan meals. It is especially good on a rainy evening.
During my trip the Sahara Desert, our Amazigh guides played music for us around a fire. They used drums and qraqebs. A qraqeb is an iron instrument with two plates that clap together.
