Hong Kong is at a very interesting time in its history because some its citizens have decided that they would like to change the direction that the country was headed.
The Hong Kong community's demands to their government and the rest of China have become very clear. These demands fill the news. People whisper about them on the street. There are five key demands Hong Kongers have in relation to the recent protests in their country. These demands have to do with protecting the rights and safety of the protesters and with allowing everyone to vote.
Hong Kong was under British occupation until in 1997, when the British handed control over to the Chinese government with a few guidelines. One Country, Two Systems was put in place. While Hong Kong became a special administrative region within China and it was allowed to have its own government for 50 years before fully becoming a part of Mainland China. Some people in Hong Kong are resistant to this idea, however, which is why there have been protests in Hong Kong recently.
