The Azores are 898 miles from Lisbon, so I traveled nearly 2,000 miles by airplane to get there. On the island, we drove from coast to coast, which in theory would only take about an hour. However, with all the twisted roads and viewpoints to stop at, it takes much longer to get around while enjoying the scenery.
Now I have traveled from Lisbon to the Azores and back. I also went to a conference in Berlin the other week, so I have traveled more than 4,000 miles in total!
This week, we had a car that we drove around the island, and also a van when we went on a tour. Also, we rode bikes around the town and walked quite a bit when we were hiking.
My favorite place to visit this week was a nature park called Caldeira Velha. There were some small thermal pools, a waterfall and a visitors' center that talked all about the natural flora and fauna on the island. It felt like we were in the jungle, but five minutes later, we could see the ocean again!
