Spanish is the main language of San Ramon and of Costa Rica as a whole. To my surprise, the Costa Rican Spanish dialect isn't too different from the Spanish I've heard in the United States. This fact could possibly be due to the pura vida lifestyle or the fact that I look like a foreigner, but everyone that I have spoken to has been really encouraging to listen to my Spanish and have spoken to me slowly and clearly.
The Colon is the national currency of Costa Rica, and this currency is so beautiful! The banknotes feature a historical figure on one side and then a symbol of something in nature on the other side of the bill. Each bill has a corresponding color and a corresponding size. The smallest bill is 1 mil (or 1000 colones), which is red in color and is the smallest in size of all the bills. The next bills are 2 mil, 5 mil, 10 mil, and 20 mil; each color respectively, blue, yellow, green, and orange-- with each bill type increasing in length. There are coins, as well, for purchases of under 1000 colones. The coins are in denominations of 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 colones. About 600 colones is equivalent to one U.S. dollar.
The bills have on them a holographic leaf which reflects underneath the light. Additionally, each bill has braille! Isn't that so cool and inclusive?
