In this little town, we are in the rainy season! Even though Baricha is in an ecosystem called a "tropical dry forest" we still have very wet parts of the year. The plants and animals here are adapted to these periods of dry and wet. This week was very rainy and humid and I could hear the frogs singing from the darker parts of the forests. At night, the rain is very strong on the roofs of the houses here. It's a beautiful sound.
So many special animals are active near me. I've seen more animals living in my house with me in this town than ever in my life! One animal appeared right in front of me at my desk while I worked. It was a scorpion! Other invertebrate animals I saw include a cicada, a bunch of leaf cutter ants, a giant moth, and more! I record some of the organisms (living things) I see by uploading them to a website called iNaturalist where other scientists can help me figure out exactly what species they are.
