I love all meals I have tried so far and cannot wait to try more!
The food here is extremely fresh and instead of feeling full and heavy after a big meal, I felt light and happy. Most coastal towns eat healthy: lots of fresh fish, farm-raised chicken and vegetables. Everything is so cheap as well! It reminds me of how different food in the USA can make you feel and how expensive supermarket produce can be. Food in Lobitos is cheaper than a U.S. supermarket, but a bit more expensive for locals. This is because of its location. Speciality ingredients cost more because of the transportation fees. At an ocean-side restaurant you can hear the waves crashing while you dig into a whole grilled fish cooked specially for you. Who wouldn't feel happy here?
Most food here is grilled or fried over a gas stove or an outdoor fire. Everything is prepared by hand and made very well. Kitchens in coastal towns like this are small and have minimal cooking utensils. Everything is made together in one big pan and then served to you on a plate. Also, everything comes with a side of limes or “limones” in Spanish. Peruvians love limes and use them in almost every dish. I love limes too, so it's perfect for me!
The town of Lobitos is a 30 minute drive from the closet large city, Talara. To get to Lobitos, you drive through a dry desert and stumble upon the town right against the ocean. Because of its location, Lobitios is hard to get to and not many people are travelling in and out.
