I've stayed within Gießen this week, only travelling for work, university or grocery shopping. The distance to work is about 5 miles and to university is only about 2.5 miles. When I go to work in the morning, I always take just one bus driven by my friend Patrick. He is from Kosovo and loves America!
I've traveled a lot so far. I've been to visit friends in Nordrhein-Westfallen three times now (75 miles), to see a friend in Nuremberg twice (132 miles) and to Leipzig once (213 miles). I've also been to Frankfurt more than a few times by now (31 miles).
I almost always use the bus. However, I did get stuck somewhere in the rain recently and took an Uber because the next bus wasn't going to be coming for another hour. Sometimes, I get a lift from a friend or coworker, but I think using the bus is the best way to get around. It's not as fast or direct, but you run into things you would have never seen otherwise. For example, I found a really good sushi buffet by riding the bus home from university.
