It was beautiful and sunny during the day and nice and cool at night. I know it's winter here when I can wear sweatpants or a sweatshirt without overheating.
I saw donkeys, pigs, peacocks, goats, cows, horses and a tarantula! Suprisingly, the pig was the scariest animal I encountered. My friends and I crept past it slowly and quietly so as not to provoke it.
My family and I were driving home from the beach when my dad exclaimed, "Look at that giant crab crossing the street!" But it wasn't a crab--it was a tarantula! Everyone else in the car screamed, and I laughed. Here, tarantulas are called cacatas, and I have encountered a few while living here, but this was the first time I've seen one in Monte Cristi.
