I traveled 75 miles to Cabarete to celebrate the New Year with other volunteers. It's a small beach town on the northern coast of the country, and it was beautiful!
I have traveled extensively over the past 16 months to many places all over the country, including Barahona, Samaná, Santiago, Santo Domingo, and beyond.
While my family was visiting, I traveled around in our rental car. It was interesting watching my dad navigate the busy Dominican streets. Once they left, I got around my taxi and guagua (a van that acts as a form of public transportation).
The most interesting place I visited over the break was a small beach called Playa Chiquita in Sosúa. It was very small, so I see where it got its name from! Despite its size, it was beautiful; surrounded by rocks, it had the softest sand and the biggest waves I have seen in the Dominican Republic so far!
