Many people in the United States and around the world view the Dominican Republic as a tropical paradise with perfect weather, hot summer temperatures and picturesque beaches enjoyed year-round. While this may be true sometimes, in some parts of the DR, there is much more to the environment. The DR has diverse environments and climates that come with their own impacts and challenges. First, the tropical climate consists of high temperatures, humidity and rainfall, all depending on the physical makeup of the land. The DR is a hurricane-prone country due to its position in the Carribbean, so we must pay close attention to the news during hurricane season. The DR is also prone to earthquakes, as it is situated on a fault line. These are just a few of the challenges the DR faces when it comes to its environment. What makes the environment of the DR so special is its diverse landscapes and weather patterns. It has many different regions with varying characteristics. There are regions that are dry and extra hot (like where I live), mountainous regions that experience cooler temperatures as well as regions of lush greenery with a lot of rainfall.
