I’ve been told before that winter in Catalonia is mild compared to the Midwestern cold I’m used to. While the temperature is definitely much higher, our house does not have any heating, so it still very much feels like winter. This week brought a bit of a phenomenon. School and work were canceled on Tuesday because of torrential rain. While it rarely gets cold enough to snow here, we get intense rainstorms instead. It rained so much that the river I live by, the Riu Onyar, nearly flooded over the five-meter-high stone walls surrounding it. When I went outside to see how bad things were, I saw a full tree floating down the current
I didn’t see any animals this week because of all the flooding, which was so sad. We usually see giant fish in the Onyar, but I’m sure they had a tough time with all the rushing water.
I saw the ocean this week, and growing up in landlocked Wisconsin, the sea is always amazing to me.
