I absolutely love the food in Spain! In general, it can be described as "Mediterranean" because the food is typically very fresh and cooked with a lot of olive oil, fresh veggies and meats, and bread, which is typical of cuisines throughout the European counties that border the Mediterranean Sea.
The timing of meals in Spain is very different compared to the United States. Spaniards usually eat very little for breakfast, and this meal is usually a little later in the morning after you have arrived at work or school. A typical Spanish breakfast might consist of coffee and milk and some type of carb like such as a small cookie or a bit of cereal. Lunch is eaten at any time between 2 and 4, and is typically a larger meal. After people get off work or school around 5 or 6, they might go out for a drink and tapas. This is a great time for conversation and a snack between lunch and dinner because at almost every restaurant or bar, if you order any drink they bring you food, too, (tapas). Dinner is eaten anywhere from 8 to11. Before COVID, it was typical not to go out for dinner until 9 or 10, but because of COVID the times have shifted to be earlier, so that people are not out any longer than is necessary.
