Each school day begins at 8:30 a.m. in the morning. Most of the kids live nearby and walk with their parents to school in the morning. Some students live in the city of Santa Cruz and must drive about 10 - 15 minutes to get to school. Teachers and students, myself included, walk through the gate when the morning bell rings. The students then line up with their homerooms to prepare for their first class. On Monday, our first class in 2nd grade is lengua or language. Then, at 9:25 a.m., we begin our Inglès or English lesson. This is my favorite lesson with the kids because I can provide a lot of help to students. The third class begins at 10:20 a.m. and goes until 11:15 a.m. After that, the students have a short break for recreo or recess. There are four playgrounds at the school, each designated to a different age group of kids. While the students enjoy recess, the teachers meet in the comedor or dining room for a small desayuno or breakfast. Recess lasts for half an hour, and the fourth class of the day begins at 11:45 a.m. The final class begins at 12:40 p.m., and the school day ends at 1:30 p.m.
