Transportation in London

Introduction:

Since I got to London,  my favorite method of transportation has been the Tube (the underground metro) because it is fast and can get me anywhere I need in the city. I also really enjoy the buses in London, but sometimes they can take a little bit longer because of the city traffic. I also really like to walk, but because London is so big, it can take a long time to walk everywhere!

How do people get around?:

People in London generally use a combination of the Tube, buses and walking to get around. It all depends on destination, distance and weather. Personally, when it is raining, I am much more likely to take the tube rather than walk!

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

When I first tried riding the Tube I was overwhelmed! I grew up in Vermont, which has no public transportation, and so learning how to navigate the different trains was hard, but I feel very proud of myself for how far I've come since my arrival in London.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

I think that the Tube is a really great way to feel a part of the London community and to get a good feel for the city!  Riding the Tube has also allowed me to get used to different customs and has helped me to learn how to be a polite visitor in London.
