While working in Yellowstone National Park last summer, I met a wonderful family from western Germany. That family invited me to spend a weekend in their home during my time in Berlin, and I loved the experience. While there, I was able to get to know their daughter, Alina. She is in Grade Nine, the middle grade in the German school system. I asked her some questions about everyday life in Germany.
Breakfast: On the weekends, Alina eats Cornflakes or toast with Nutella.
Lunch: Alina eats foods like pizza, pasta or schnitzel (like an American pork tenderloin) and always a salad.
Dinner: Alina usually has vegetables and breads with cheese.
Alina lives in a three-story house in the hills of a small village. She has her own bedroom in the basement, plays the piano in the dining room and sometimes does homework at the kitchen table. There is a lot of room outside to play games like basketball and baseball!
In addition to setting the table for meals and cleaning her bedroom, Alina enjoys helping her mom cook. When I visited, I helped make homemade pizza and it was so fun!
