Meet Gerlee!

Introduction:

Gerlee was my first friend in Mongolia. I was thrilled to find someone who speaks English and who was so warm and welcoming. She helped me adjust and answered my questions about life in Ulaanbaatar. I'm turning it over to Gerlee now!

What is your full name?:

"My name is Gerelchimeg Janchiv. Most people call me Gerlee for short. My name means light and decorations."

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

"My house is a one bedroom flat in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It is in Khoroo 116/51, which is like a district. All of Ulaanbaatar is divided into these small districts. Before I lived here, I lived in Bulgan province. In Bulgan, I lived in a ger, the traditional white felt tent of Mongolia. We also had a small wooden house with one room. The kitchen, living room and bedroom were all together. I moved from Bulgan to UB when I was fifteen."

What is your family like?:

"I grew up with five brothers and two sisters. I have one son who lives in Spain with his father. Now, I live together with my mom and my two young daughters."

How do you get around?:

"I use the bus to get around. The bus costs 500 tugriks per trip. That is about twenty cents!"
